It’s telling that when I poll friends, many of those who grew up in the same theological circles as I did — conservative, evangelical, and dispensational — distinctly remember the supremely creepy Thief in the Night film and its even scarier sequels, while my mainline Protestant friends have no idea what I’m talking about.
“What is this thing people scare their children with?” my Episcopalian friend Kate asked on a Facebook thread in which friends were sharing their Thief in the Night memories — most of which involved being terrified, which was my experience too.
