Another July 4th has passed, and we’ve all had our perennial opportunity to shout that the United States is the greatest country in the history of everything.
In other words: for another year, we’ve gotten it all wrong. We’re wrong that the 4th comes around every year to valorize American might. We’re wrong that the 4th ought to inspire patriotic unity. We’re wrong that that Greenwood Mac song is ever appropriate.
