The Battle Against Church Bathrooms

 The battle to keep lavatories out of churches was fought hard 170 years ago, and for a long time it was thought to have been won.

I’d come across mention of the question in the early Victorian period in that mischievous book by Peter Anson, Fashions in Church Furnishings, 1840-1940, which is really about changes in belief. I’ve just got round to following up his references, which are a little convoluted. His chief sources on this come from the Ecclesiologist, which was not so much a learned journal, more a revolutionary weapon.
