Liberal Evangelical Tony Campolo, long known for his loquaciousness, has posted a podcast saying he “fully” understands why a Korean-American missionary imprisoned in ruthless North Korea has not been released given that U.S. missionaries have been “too close” to the CIA. The missionary (see CNN photo above) has been sentenced to 15 years imprisonment.
In contrast with Campolo, President Obama in January made a dignified appeal for the missionary’s release. “We pray for Kenneth Bae, a Christian missionary who has been held in North Korea for 15 months,” he said at the National Prayer Breakfast. “His family wants him home, and the United States will continue to do everything in our power to secure his release because Kenneth Bae deserves to be free.”
