Just months after an insurance company donated £500,000 to install the hi-tech alarms in 100 churches across the UK, the number of claims for the theft of lead and copper has fallen by 60 per cent.
The campaign to install movement sensors, which are hidden in spires and finials, was launched in February after a dramatic increase in metal thefts which culminated in an average of seven churches targeted every day.
