A two-edged sword was a potent weapon to own in Old Testament times. The Lord used the object to illustrate the effect of His word. “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart” (Hebrews 4:12).
In simplest terms “joints” are the thick, hard, outer part of the bone that connect the skeleton and allow us to move. “Marrow” is the soft and tender substance that fills the inner part of the bone. When a two-edged sword enters the body it severs and cuts stopping the enemy immediately.
