Read Deuteronomy 28, Again

I drove into work this morning (usually I take public transit). On the radio I heard a gentleman discussing the first oath office taken by President George Washington. He reminded me that not only did President Washington place his hand on the bible to take the oath of office but that he opened it to Deuteronomy 28. Why?

This is a lengthy chapter so I will not quote it in its entirety. But something tells me very few, if any of us have read this chapter recently. Imagine standing in New York City on April 30, 1789 watching the Constitution role into action. Consider why President Washington felt strongly about this chapter. What can we learn about Washington’s feelings of the events that were transpiring? What is the application today?
