Just a few weeks ago I was having dinner with a friend, when he asked if I was, "still doing that Mormon thing" and finished with, "you know it's a cult, right'? Once he looked up and noticed my death stare he started furiously back peddling with, "I mean...I meant, cult in a good way." Cult in a good way? Despite the fact that this man is one of my smartest friends, it was quite possibly the stupidest thing I'd ever heard him say.
It's not like I haven't heard the word before. Last fall, Baptist Pastor and Rick Perry supporter Robert Jeffress publically stated his belief that Mitt Romney belonged to a cult. On the most recent episode of Real Talk, during a discussion about whether or not Romney's donations to the Mormon Church constituted giving to charity, Bill Maher threw in "you mean that cult." Two things about this. First, Bill Maher, you're a moron. Second, this ugly aside was my ah ha moment.
