Looking for a Mormon Money Conspiracy?

Mitt Romney released his tax returns on Monday and confirmed a widely circulating hunch....he makes a lot of money. Recent speculation about the devious ways he and others among the "super rich" evade their public duty in the form of paying taxes has also called into question some of Romney's charitable donations, specifically the tithing he pays to the Mormon Church. Romney-haters and naysayers, I'll save you some time. If you're looking for a money conspiracy, look elsewhere.

As a practicing member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints I can tell you: we Mormons are anything but casual in the way that we worship. We are cautioned against pre-marital sex and so we abstain. We are strongly advised not to drink alcohol, so we don't. And we are instructed to give 10 percent of our earnings back to the God, through the Church, so we do. We do this not with blind deference, as some who enjoy dropping the word "cult" into casual conversation have suggested, but because of a deeply rooted faith in Jesus Christ.
