I am not totally convinced the Jon Huntsman political ad being passed around today on YouTube is really endorsed by him. There is a lot of mischievous scam work in the political arena. Watch it here.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is not a racist organization. The prophet Joseph Smith stated in 1844 while a candidate himself for the president of the United States: “Break of the shackles from the poor black man, and hire him to labor like other human beings.” The LDS Church’s opposition to slavery was a source of contention as the Saints settled among pro-slavery citizens in Missouri. When Joseph Smith ran for president in 1844, part of his platform included abolishing slavery and purchasing the freedom of slaves by the sale of western lands and deducting pay from members of Congress (see History of the Church, 6:205). That is a pretty good use of funds.
