DESIGNERS get especially excited about decorating during the holiday season, and last year, Nicole Fuller decided that what she wanted, in the Manhattan apartment she shares with her husband, Clarence, and three Maine coon cats, was a covered entirely in white feathers — a swan tree, she called it.
Ms. Fuller painted the tips of the branches in silver glitter and tucked feathers of every size and shape into the branches. She cannot recall whether the retching (the cats’) or the sneezing (her husband’s) started first, but she does remember it was a mess.
