Count me with the likes of Jonathan Chait and Frank Bruni, who castigate their fellow liberals Eugene Robinson and Michael Kinsley for deeming New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie's plus-size profile a disqualifier for the presidency.
Robinson, writing at The Washington Post, tries to frame his critique of Christie's weight in medical terms, saying "elected officials perform best when they are in optimal health." Christie's obesity means he is not in optimal healh, as he himself has conceded, and therefore, Robinson says, the latest would-be Republican savior needs to lower his weight before aiming for higher office.
