From August 15 through August 19, 2011, the 1025 voting delegates of the 65 synods of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America met in Orlando, Florida. A “synod” is a geographical region of the ELCA. Ogden is located in the five state Rocky Mountain Synod of the ELCA.
The number of voting delegates of each synod is determined by the number of baptized members and the number of congregations in each synod. 60 percent of the delegates were lay people, half male and half female, and 40 percent were ordained clergy. About ten percent of the delegates were people of color or people whose primary language was not English.
