The Tax Code Is a Moral Document

I know, I know. The only thing worse than paying your taxes is having to listen to (or read) someone else’s take on tax policy, but hear me out.

Liberals hate that Big Business and other special interests use loopholes in the tax code to avoid paying taxes. General Electric, for example, had revenues of over $150 billion in 2010 yet paid no federal taxes. (President Obama’s curiously cozy relationship with GE’s CEO, Jeffrey Immelt draws somewhat less attention from the left, but we’ll leave that alone.) Gazillionaire Warren Buffett complains that he doesn’t pay enough taxes (though he’s free to pay more than the law requires) while President Obama laments that Buffet’s secretary pays a higher tax rate than Buffett! Well, gosh, that hardly seems fair.
