Something really dumb was done by the Albermarle County (Va.) school board. It yanked a 19th century Sherlock Holmes novel, “A Study in Scarlet,” from a sixth-grade reading list. (I credit my friend Steve Gurr for alerting me to this). Someone complained that the Sir Arthur Conan Doyle novel was derogatory to Mormons. (Read) My response is big deal and when is censorship ever preferable to banning a classic book?
