Last September, C and I went to a trunk show at Saks for a jewelry designer whose work I liked. Except that I got the dates wrong—hm, wonder what that means—and we showed up to find the trunks packed up and gone.
“Want to go to Shreve’s?” he asked. We’d psyched ourselves up, and couldn’t just go home.
