Today a new exhibit opens at the Cayuga Museum of History and Art, featuring the history of Presbyterians in Auburn with a special focus upon First Presbyterian Church, which celebrates its 200th anniversary this year. Auburn has a very rich history of religious establishments, of which Presbyterians represent just one chapter, although an interesting one. First Presbyterian Church was influential in the founding of the first public school in Auburn, the YMCA, and Auburn’s only theological seminary, where the Willard Chapel, one of the last remaining buildings of the seminary, is located. Altogether, there were five different Presbyterian churches in Auburn.
