After 14 Fridays, the Jammu and Kashmir government finally allowed moderate Hurriyat chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq to lead congregation prayers at the Jamia Masjid today.
The government’s refusal to let the same was threatening to renew the old political rivalry between the ruling National Conference and Mirwaiz’s own political outfit, Awami Action Committee, with Mirwaiz seeing it as an attack on his traditional political turf.
