Billy Graham Might Preach Final Sermon

Exit poll: God vote followed faithful pattern

For Billy Graham, it's all about the ministry, always about the ministry, so, of course, to mark his 92nd birthday on Sunday he has evangelism in mind.

In recent years, the frail evangelist is rarely out in the public eye -- although President Obama, the first sitting president to visit Graham at Graham's Montreat, N.C. mountaintop home, the 12th president with whom he has prayed.

There was also a lively rumor that he might preach at Carolina Panther's stadium. Melany Ethridge, a spokesperson for Graham, says,

It is true that he has a sermon on his heart and would like to preach again. However, there is no venue or date planned. It would more likely be something he might record on video.

She works with Graham's his press aide of several decades, A. Larry Ross. Ross likes to say Graham "stays prayed up all the time."

According to a release from Ross' office, the evangelist says,

I am amazed every time I think of how many years the Lord has given me on this earth. I am grateful for His blessing on our ministry for more than six decades, but wonder if there is something more He has for me to accomplish.

Recently, I have been praying for renewal in the Church in America and international revival. This includes specific prayers for the Third Lausanne Congress on Global Evangelization held down in Cape Town, South Africa, last month. We first began holding these global leadership gatherings in 1961, and I believe they are so important as we work together with our Christian brothers and sisters around the world in spreading the good news of the Gospel message.

While I don't know what the future holds for me, I still look for ways to serve the Lord. Most of all, I look forward to serving Him in Heaven one day, alongside my dear wife Ruth, who I miss more every year.

Did you ever attend a Billy Graham crusade? Do you tune in to the Hour of Decision, the radio program that launched with his Billy Graham Evangelistic Association 60 years ago? His son and BGEA heir Franklin Graham, has taken the ministry into politics more directly than his father. Did either evangelist have an impact on your life?
