When I consider the recent history of the evangelical movement, I canâ??t help but think of the image of a punk rocker. Iâ??m fully aware that this is a strange metaphor. If you were to ask 50 people to blurt out the first word that comes to mind when they think of an evangelical Christian, Iâ??m confident none of them would think of dyed hair and loud guitars.
But â??punk rockâ? is the right metaphor for what evangelicalism is. And evangelicals of all people need to understand why this is true. As the evangelical movement struggles to survive and grow, it would be helpful for evangelicals to understand their core passions and remember why their movement started in the first place.
