When the Church Locked Its Doors
J.D. Hansard, Charleston Express
Reverend Bullard left our church in, I think, the fall of 1952. For more than a year we had no minister. We continued to conduct Sunday school but had no other regular services. I like to say that I then fell in with a "bad crowd" - Baptists. I went to church at North Side Baptist on Sunday mornings, again on Sunday nights and on Wednesday nights, for prayer meeting. I was also a regular at their youth group meetings. I was, for all practical purposes, for a while, a Baptist.
