Do Evangelicals Want a Soft Version of Sharia?

Former conservative evangelical activist and theorist Franky Schaeffer, son of the late evangelical intellectual and highly influential Francis Schaeffer, continues to disparage his parents and their fellow evangelicals. Most recently, in a public radio interview, he likened conservative evangelicals to Islamists who want Sharia.

“Underneath the surface of the legislative agenda of the Right in America has become an attempt to do away with the Constitution and Bill of Rights, and replace it with a kind of soft theocracy, like a Saudi Arabia or Iran lite,” Schaeffer claimed.  (His interview broadcast is here: recent radio interview).  Schaeffer, the son of influential evangelical leaders and founders of the L’Abri Institute in Switzerland, Francis and Edith Schaeffer, discussed his newest book, Sex, Mom and God: How the Bible's Strange Take on Sex Led to Crazy Politics--and How I Learned to Love Women (and Jesus) Anyway with Chicago Public Media’s Worldview radio program Monday, November 28, 2011.
