Every August anniversary of the 1945 U.S. atomic attacks on Japan that ended World War II excites the Religious Left to renewed demands for complete nuclear disarmament by the U.S. The head of the National Council of Churches has rehashed a statement from the World Council of Churches: “The production and deployment of nuclear weapons, as well as their use, constitute a crime against humanity.” And he added: “Such weapons do not protect us from the enemy; they are the enemy.
