Baptists Prepare Help for Japanese

Baptist groups prepared March 11 to meet human needs caused by a magnitude 8.9 earthquake that spawned tsunami waves as high as 23 feet in Japan and prompted tsunami warnings in Hawaii and watches as far away as the West Coast of the United States.

Paul Montacute, director of Baptist World Aid, the relief-and-development arm of the Baptist World Alliance, said two BWAid Rescue 24 teams left Hungary within five hours of the quake. North Carolina Baptist Men sent two relief workers to join the Hungarians, and Texas Baptist Men were on standby.
